DJ Lauren Lane knows a thing or two about a good party having played some of the most notorious clubs and festivals across the globe – think Coachella, Ibiza‘s legendary DC10 and Rio Music Conference. While she honed her craft on the New York house music scene, the DJ now calls Los Angeles home. With the city more renowned for its natural food scene than its nightlife, we were curious where the DJ could be found when the lights go down in the City of Angels. Here Lauren gives SUITCASE some of her favourite haunts in Los Angeles.
For a casual drink with friends:
Mama Shelter in Hollywood has a cool, kitchsy vibe. There are games at the bar and the food is yummy. The roof is a great spot to have a casual drink and take in the views from the heart of Hollywood. This place isn’t fancy but it’s fun.
To have a drink outdoors:
The garden terrace at Chateau Marmont is the best place for an outdoor drink. The chic vintage vibe provides the perfect setting to enjoy this legendary hotel.
If you want to dance but don’t want to go to a club:
Tenants of the Trees in Silver Lake is a cool indoor/outdoor cocktail bar with space for dancing and even an outdoor movie theatre. It looks like a mid-century style home and focuses on music, film, art and cuisine making it more diverse than a regular club.
If you want to listen to techno:
Sound in Hollywood is a great place to hear the best tech-house, deep house and techno. I was actually one of the first residents on Friday nights when the club first opened 4 years ago. Check their schedule for the rotating list of international talent.
If you want to listen to house:
A Club Called Rhonda is the polysexual party that started in LA in 2010 and has now toured many cities throughout the world. From LA to Miami to NY, Berlin and a lot in between, Rhonda has become a benchmark in music and nightlife for inclusion, uninhibited self-expression and excellent taste in music.
If you want to listen to dancehall:
SHABBAAAAA. It’s a reggae and dancehall night at Los Globos.
If you’re out after hours:
DTLA warehouse parties or The Overpass (the after hours invite-only speakeasy) are both fun options that stay open later than the average 2am last call for “regular” bars and clubs in LA.
On a night out, you’re most likely to find me at:
Dinner. I like to enjoy relaxing nights when I’m home in LA and not on tour.
You’d never find me at:
A BBQ restaurant (…I’m vegetarian)
