Lauren Lane is an up and coming DJ/producer who's originally from New York and recently moved to LA in the past year to further advance her career. She's currently the resident DJ of one of Hollywood's biggest club in Sound Nightclub. She's released tracks on major labels like Visionquest and NIC FANCIULLI's Saved Records. Check out our interview we did with Lauren at Wavefront Festival in Chicago.

Who introduced you to electronic music?

To be honest, I introduced myself to it because I was a bad teenager! Me and my friends were at a party when I first heard it -- and after that I needed to know everything there is to know about it.

Did you start DJing from that moment?

Not right away. At first, I was downloading music like a mad woman! I was making CDs for my friends and was giving all my music I found to real DJs. Then I was like, “Wait a second! Why should I be doing all the leg work for these DJs? I should be a DJ!”

As you’re originally from New York , what prompted you to move from NY to LA?

Well, my husband decided he wanted to work at this new place that was opening called Sound Nightclub.

I was living in New York for 10 years and I decided maybe it was time for a change. I went to LA and, even though they didn't make any promises to me, it ended up with me being a resident DJ with Droog. Now I can call LA home. I'm spoiled because sometimes I don't realize how amazing it is over here. Sound Nightclub has an amazing sound system and is an amazing room; it's beautiful and is a great place to play.

How's the music culture different from LA vs New York?

It's definitely night and day. I feel like New York is super educated in their music. Not that LA isn't - - but I feel like not everyone in LA has been exposed to the non-commercial DJs. Also, people in LA are regularly going out to nightclubs, so everyone gets kinda scared to go out to a warehouse parties. I love warehouse parties, but your average person is not going to venture out to East LA to go check out good music. But now there's a safe home base at Sound Nightclub that has proper music on Friday nights.

How do you feel about playing at all these great festivals like BPM, Coachella, and Wavefront?

I'm just happy that I get to be included with people whom I respect. I'm honored and grateful to be here doing what I love to do.

Who are some of your favorite DJ's that you look up to?

Danny Tenaglia was probably one of my biggest inspirations while I was growing up in New York and going out to Vinyl. He is the master of blending so many different sounds together. I like listening to all types of music, and, with Danny, I learned there are no limitations and no one specific sound I should limit myself to.

I also look up to SETH TROXLER because he's come so far and he's so young and funny. He's such a character, but he has my respect because he plays all vinyl. He's part of Visionquest and his label helps support young artists like CLARIAN.

Do you have any new productions coming out?

I have a new EP coming out in September on Saved Records. I don't what the name of the EP is yet, but I might call it Magic Flight since one of the tracks is called “Magic Flight”. I also have a follow up track to “Lazer Eyes” where the remix was done by one of the members of dOP. I don't have a date out for the remix yet, but it's coming out on a major label that I can't mention at the moment!
